Epicurus argued that, “The root of pleasures is the satisfaction of the stomach,” and true to their ancestor, modern Greeks have made eating into a true philosophy! Thus eating in Greece goes beyond satisfying a basic human need; it is a whole ritual in itself.
In Athens I am always amazed by the spectacular changes in the dining scene of the city. New hip restaurants and cozy bars are found in trendy areas such as Gazi and upscale restaurants are scattered all around the town centre in classy areas such as Kolonaki. While Plaka offers a plethora of taverns with traditional Greek food, one can discover a wide variety of gourmet offerings always with a twist of the unique Greek taste.
