Larnaca (Larnaka), located in the south-east of the island,  is the second commercial port and important tourist destination.  Among its attractions is a modern harbour, a large marina, and its seafront promenade called Finikoudes, lined with rows of palm trees, coffee shops, bars and various restaurants. Larnaka can boast for its own contribution to the cultural heritage of Cyprus, with one of the most important ancient Kingdoms of Cyprus, called Kition. The town’s Salt Lake, nearby the island’s major International Airport, is also a major attraction and a favourite habitat during the winter months for migratory birds, as during the summer the lake dries up and salt is collected.  It is also worth mentioning that Larnaka is very close to Ayia Napa and Protaras, two very popular summer destinations offering amazing beaches and a lively nightlife.
