October 9, 2019A Bohemian Experience
Tucked away in the arty quarters of Monastiraki, one finds the delightful Café Avissinia. Back in the mid-80s Ketty Koufonikolas, a dynamic Greek woman, dared to transform a cramped little shop, located in a not so inviting area in Athens, initially into a teashop. The décor, with personal belongings, amazing china, antique furniture, eye-catching paintings and floral covered walls, takes one back to Greece in the 60s. A showstopper is the rooftop terrace with uninterrupted views of the famed Acropolis. The western Macedonia inspired cuisine, with origins from the Byzantine times, provides a Greek food journey of wow flavours with a twist. A charming alternative in the bohemian quarters of Athens to consider for a private or non-private dining experience.
